CWP30/COF MIXED POWDERS |
ADVANTAGES OFFERED BY EUROTUNGSTENE TUNGSTEN CARBIDE/COBALT MIXED POWDERS
Mixing of WC with cobalt is however a difficult task due to their wide difference of density.
Eurotungstene has developed a wide range of mixed powders WC/Co giving an extremely homogeneous and consistant dispersion of WC. These mixed powders allow outstanding tool performance.
CHARACTERISTICS OF EUROTUNGSTENE MIXED POWDERS
In spite of the wide difference of densities (Co = 8,9 g/cm3), our process is capable of achieving extremely homogeneous mixtures as shown in the following photos.
Co = 8.9 g/cm³
WC = 15.7 g/cm³
Such mixtures are extremely stable and remain as such even after transportation. Both components have been chosen from Eurotungstene's special powders for diamond tools:
WC: CWP30 (CW5522)
Cobalto: COF (CO6105)
The range covers a wide spectrum of WC content from 10 to 75%. |

Granulated version
As for other ETP cobalt powders, Eurotungstene offers a granulated version of the WC20/Co80 grade.

The main advantages are:
- higher apparent density
- no dust
- good flowability
| As measured by HALL flowmeter (ISOStandard 4490), the typical flowing time is 50 seconds (non granulated mixed powders show no measurable flowability). |
SINTERING RECOMMENDATIONS (HOT PRESSING) |
| As the WC content of the mixture increases, the sintering temperature required to reach optimum segment density also increases.
The following chart shows typical sintering cycles and corresponding achieved densities. |
PERFORMANCES OBTAINED |
| The two main effects of WC addition are increased hardness and abrasion resistance of the bonds.
In order to measure the abrasion resistance of sintered parts, ETP has adapted an existing standard test (ASTM B611) for the specific properties of diamond tools bonds.
The following charts show the results obtained with different WC contents.
The most suitable mixed powder can easily be selected according to the abrasivity of the material to be cut.
CONCLUSION |
| The above results confirm that the ETP mixed powders of WC/Cobalt increase both hardness and abrasion resistance.
Due to these properties, these mixed powders give enhanced performance in the cutting of abrasive materials.
This original range of powders confirms ETP's policy of providing technical solutions to diamond tool manufactures. |
